About Bethany Ynyshir

Welcome to Bethany Baptist Church web site. We hope that you will find the information contained useful. The site is intended to provide information about Bethany Baptist Church Ynyshir, in the hope that more people will come to and find salvation and security through Jesus Christ.

We are a small chapel located in the Rhondda Fach Valley. We aim to provide an outreach in the valleys to spread the word of God throughout the local community.

We welcome all new visitors within our congregation, but if we are not in your area, and would like to find out more about accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior, please contact us and we would be more than happy to discuss any questions you may have, and direct you to a Church that may be more accessible for you. Our aim is to bring people to know the Lord. If it be within our Chapel or another.

Matthew 28:18 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Bethany History

Church Building 1884The English Baptist cause was started by Mr.and Mrs. David John of  No 1 Weston Terrace, Ynyshir, toward the end of 1884 with ten of their friends.  Thomas and Mrs. Bowen, Thomas and Mrs. Cross, William and Mrs.Gadd, Moses Thomas, David Reed, Mrs. Thomas and Evan Reed. They held Sunday school and weekly prayer meetings at No 1 Weston Terrace. David John was said to have been the pioneer of the movement and was the leader of this small band of people. Bethany Congregation

Their vision was to have a chapel of their own, and this dream was achieved when the Welsh congregation outgrew their chapel on Ynyshir Road in 1885 and built Saron. There was then an opportunity for the English Baptist movement (who themselves had now grown in number) to purchase Ynyshir chapel for a sum of £400.

The English Baptists took possession of the chapel and it was named Bethany.   Opening services were held on the July 5th 1885, Rev, James Williams of Dowlais being the preacher.

Mr. David John died 4 May 1887, less than two years after the chapel was formally established, but his vision lives on to this day.

Bethany Today

Over the years Bethany Chapel Ynyshir has had its good times and lean times, but is now a flourishing chapel and enjoys a strong membership. There are many souls being won to the Lord, especially young men and women.

Bethany Building TodayIn 2006 the we following a great deal of prayer the Church made plans to modernise to building to allow for the growing congregation and Sunday School needs. The development is intended to keep the Sunday School within the same building as the main Church, and also provide a separate fellowship hall for additional activities. The plans were completed and work started to split the church into 2 floors.

With the support and protection from the Lord the building was completed in time for the Christmas services. To start the new year and thank the Lord and patrons for all the support a week of revival services were run, led by Pastor Perry Jones.

Bethany Baptist Church would like thank everyone for all their support and patience during this time. And of course praise the Lord for the support and direction, for it is done for His Glory and extension of His Kingdom.
